Building Blocks – Free
After writing a dozen plus custom themes and starting from scratch each time, I finally got smart and wrote a base template that lays out all of the basic structures and styles, shavings hours off of every project.
Building Blocks includes:
- Widget ready sidebar
- Template file for sidebar-enabled pages
- Template file for pages with no sidebar
- Clean coding with comments for easy modification
- Basic styling for most elements, including forms
- Custom Comment Template to allow for easy styling
Theme files include:
- index.php
- page.php
- single.php
- header.php
- sidebar.php
- comments.php
- functions.php
- footer.php
- style.css
Change Log:
V 1.1
Added Custom Comment Template and callback to allow for easy styling.
Added page.php, single.php and comments.php template files.
Added CSS for comments.
Hope this helps!

FYI: Your demo link is missing the leading ‘h’ — thanks for making this available!
Thanks for letting me know, Mark!
Your demo link is still missing the “h”
Hi, I wanted to thank you for providing a base theme so I can learn how to create my own WP sites. It’s a great start for this grandmother webmaster to learn how to do what you do so well.
By the way, I spent 31 years of my life in central Kansas — it’s a good place to live. Also enjoyed your tutorial on the Category & Taxonomy widget – I’m contemplating investing in that soon.
Glad I could help
Where in Central KS?
That “h” is still missing. Is this a test of some sort?
“H” in “https” is still missing
@soulmen – Fixed!
I guess it wasn’t a test after all. It just took the right person calling attention to it.
Ha, it just took me finally doing it
